Everything you need to know after bringing your Braecrest dog home
Step by Step
Registering Your Dog in NSW
If you live in New South Wales, follow these steps as soon as possible after receiving your dog.
Transfer Registration with Dogs NSW
Contact Dogs NSW (dogsnsw.org.au) to transfer the dog's registration into your name. You will need the dog's registration papers provided by the breeder. A transfer fee applies. The dog must be registered in your name before it can be shown or bred.
Council Registration
Register your dog with your local council within 7 days of bringing the dog home (or within 7 days of the dog turning 12 weeks old). You'll need proof of microchipping and vaccination. Desexed dogs attract a lower annual fee. Check your local council's website for fees and forms.
Update Microchip Details
Update the microchip registry with your contact details. In NSW, dogs must be microchipped and registered on the NSW Pet Registry (petregistry.nsw.gov.au). Log in or create an account, search by microchip number, and transfer ownership. This is a legal requirement.

Registering in Other States
The process is similar in every state — transfer with the state canine body, register with your local council, and update your microchip details.
VIC
Register with Dogs Victoria (dogsvictoria.org.au) and your local council. Update microchip details on the national microchip registry (Central Animal Records or equivalent).
QLD
Register with Dogs Queensland (dogsqueensland.org.au) and your local council. Update your details on the QLD pet registry or Central Animal Records.
SA
Register with Dogs SA (dogssa.com.au) and your local council. Update microchip details on Central Animal Records.
WA
Register with Dogs West (dogswest.com) and your local council. Update microchip details on the Central Animal Records registry.
TAS
Register with Dogs Tasmania (dogstasmania.org.au) and your local council. Update microchip details accordingly.
ACT
Register with Dogs ACT and the ACT Government's Access Canberra. Update microchip records on Central Animal Records.
NT
Register with Dogs NT and your local council. Update microchip details on Central Animal Records.
Microchip tip: The national microchip registry is Central Animal Records (car.com.au). Updating your details here ensures your dog can be returned to you if lost anywhere in Australia.

Vaccinations & Vet Care
Your puppy will leave Braecrest up to date with age-appropriate vaccinations. Here's what to expect going forward.
C3 Core Vaccination
The core C3 vaccine covers Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvovirus. This is administered as a puppy series, then a booster at 12–16 months, and then every 3 years for most adult dogs. Always consult your vet.
Kennel Cough (Bordetella / Parainfluenza)
Recommended if your dog will attend dog shows, boarding kennels, or dog parks. Usually given annually as a nasal spray or injection. Required by most boarding facilities and highly recommended for show dogs.
Annual Vet Check
Even if full vaccinations aren't due, an annual health check with your vet is important. Your vet can assess heart, teeth, coat, weight, and any breed-specific health concerns.
Keep Records
Always keep your dog's vaccination booklet and vet records safe. You will need to present these at dog shows, boarding kennels, and vet visits.
Financial Protection
Pet Insurance
Veterinary costs can be significant. Pet insurance is strongly recommended, especially for puppies. Take out insurance as soon as possible — most policies have a waiting period before cover begins.
Compare policies carefully — look for annual limits, sub-limits per condition, and whether the breed is listed. Some insurers charge higher premiums for purebreds.
Legal Requirement
Microchip Information
Your Braecrest puppy will be microchipped before leaving us — this is a legal requirement in all Australian states and territories.
The microchip is a permanent form of identification (about the size of a grain of rice) implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. It does not act as a GPS tracker — it is scanned by vets and shelters to identify a dog and return them to their owner.
Your responsibility: Update the microchip registry with your name, address, and phone number as soon as you take ownership. If you move house or change your phone number, update the registry immediately.
For Show Owners
Accounts You'll Need to Show
If your dog is eligible to be shown (registered on the Main Register with Dogs NSW or your state body), you'll need accounts with the following platforms to enter and participate in shows.
Show Manager
The primary online entry system for dog shows in NSW and many other states. Create an account, add your dog's details, and use it to enter shows online. You will need your dog's registration number.
Dogzonline
Australia's largest dog community platform. Create a breeder/owner profile, list your dog, track show results, find upcoming shows, and connect with other breed enthusiasts.
OzEntries
Another online show entry platform used by many canine clubs around Australia. Some clubs use OzEntries exclusively, so it's worth having an account alongside Show Manager.
Dogdom
A popular Australian dog show news and results platform. Register to track your dog's show results, read show reports, and stay up to date with the Australian show scene.
Dogs NSW / State Body Online Portal
Your state canine body will have an online member portal for managing your membership, registrations, and show entries. Ensure your contact details are current.
